finders keepers: yellow tennis shoes

The other evening I had some time to myself since Clint was in class so I figured I'd get some shopping done.  No, it's not the fun shopping you'd think of, it was grocery shopping (although I think that can be fun sometimes).  Anyways, I was going to the grocery store, but I figured I needed to check out Goodwill first to see if I could find any goodies for decorating.  On my way around the store I glanced by the shoes section and found myself saying, "Don't mind if I do!" as I spotted these bright yellow tennis shoes!!  Now, you always take a risk when thrifting for clothing items, because there's the high likelihood that the item won't be your right size and then there's not another size.  Luckily in my case, the shoes were just my size!  (Insert Cinderella-type shoe fitting moment here)  And, at only $5 these babies had to come home with me!  Don't they look great in the grass?!  Hello new Spring shoes!!

Woodsy wonderland

My Saturday started out pretty peaceful, a long run with some gals from church...and then I came home to a wild, wooded wonderland in my front yard!  Thankfully I was expecting it since we had scheduled to have a very large ash tree removed from our front yard, so it wasn't a big surprise to have wood logs everywhere.
While the wood was laying in the yard I had the thought that I needed to do something crafty with all this wood!  So here are the pieces that I have saved to do something with at a later date.  You can see how big the tree was in comparison to my shoe.

With all this wonderful natural wood hanging around it made me think what other wonderful woodsy inspired items are out there on the market this season?   Here's a few of the goods I discovered and was inspired by and think you'll be inspired by them too!

Spring is definitely a great time to let nature (whether it's woodsy, flowery, or something else) inspire home decorating, entertaining and crafting!  Love it!

The YUM room...aka the dining room

I'm excited to finally start hanging a few things up on the walls in our new place!  I busted out the box of dining room decor the other night and hung up my fun "yum" sign and flanked it with the thrift store plates I bought (each one cost $2 or less!).  The "yum" sign was created by taking a silver tray and hot gluing wooden letters (that I painted yellow!) to the bottom of it.

This is one of my favorite plates on the wall, it's actually two plates!  I just hot glued the floral plate on top of the solid aqua plate for a little extra pop of color.

In the corner of the dining room I have this little yellow bar cart that I got from my mom (yeah for free goodies!) which makes a nice home for the extra glass ware that doesn't fit in the kitchen cabinets.  Go figure, we have less cabinet space in our house than we had in our little apartment.  Of course we don't have any children running around, so this makes a good storage solution for now.

I rediscovered this ceramic tea set that my grandma Arlene made me many
years ago, and I thought it would look perfect on this little cart especially since it is just the right color.

I'm sure I will eventually add more, but I'm excited to start making the dining room my own.

Let there be light!

Remember just a few weeks ago (or maybe a month ago now) that I told you know about the "big" plans I had for a lamp pieces I bought?!  Well, I finally put the lamp together, and I had to share!
I used spray adhesive to get the fabric to stick to the lamp shade, and then I decided to finish off the shade with navy ribbon that I adhered with a hot glue gun.  I have many projects like this planned for our new home, but I'm just glad I could get one accomplished for now!!

Roll with it baby!

I had a request from Clint today to make rolls to go with dinner instead of picking up a loaf of french bread on my way home from work.  It's not hard to figure out why these rolls were requested with their cheesey goodness and fresh-from the oven warmth!  I found this recipe online one night when I wanted to have fresh rolls to go with dinner for guests we were having over.  I've made them a few times since and recently added to them by sprinkling a little bit of garlic powder and grated cheese on top before putting these in the oven.
I have to warn you though, it might be hard to only have one of these rolls with your meal 'cause they are scrumptious!

Red hot Target clearance finds

I love when I see the little red sticker on items at Target, cause it means savings!!  I've been looking for a rug to go in our living room, and I spotted this great rug when I was strolling the aisles of Target.  Not only did the rug look like the perfect fit for our living room, but it was about 30% off the regular price, score!

Just as I thought the red sticker goodness was limited to just the rug, I spotted this adorable chevron pillow on sale too!  I couldn't help but pick it up and bring it home!  Yet another reason why I love Target!

Make it personal!

What better way to make a birthday celebration and gift, then to personalize!  We celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday with a family dinner this last weekend and I decided to make this banner.  I gathered extra scrapbook paper that I had to cut out the triangles that I strung together for the banner.

Instead of a regular gift bag, I personalized a canvas bag with fabric paint and stamps.  Even after the gift is opened, this canvas bag serves as a great carry-all.
I loved being able to do these simple little projects that made the celebration a little more personal for my mother-in-law!

Home Sweet Home

Last Saturday Clint and I moved into our new place!  We were lucky enough to have the help of both of our families and a couple of friends.  It was so cute to look in the den when we were putting away some things and see my mom and nieces put up this cute "home sweet home" sign!  We're happy to be in our new home and of course have been busy with little projects and settling in!
